A Hypothetical Heritage

Some creative writing that might explain my circumstances.

On the western plains there lived many God fearing farmers. They praised God when the harvest was bountiful, and they called on God when their crops failed. They rose early and worked hard until they laid down at night. They trusted God in everything.

One day the Lord said to Satan, “Have you considered these farmers? There is no one on earth like them. They work hard, and seek me in everything they do. And when they sing, oh, it breaks my heart.” Satan replied, “Do these farmers praise You for nothing? You made man to work and the soil to be worked. You made man to be in community and these farmers work side by side under the sun. They worship together, and one faces a blizzard to help another in need. But give them easy work in the shade, money for anything they want, and a government to rescue them from any calamity, and they will turn their backs on You, forget, and even deny that You exist."

The Lord said, “Very well, you may test their children, but the farmers, those who stay and work the soil, you must stay far from them. Offer the children everything they want. Let them prosper. Let them work in comfort. Make their borders safe. Give them a government to provide for every need.”

Do you suppose this is where we are?
